more about kommetjie can

Our Programs

Kommetjie CAN is mobilising support for no one to be left behind during the pandemic and beyond.

About Us

We are an open group of residents and friends of Kommetjie, who believe in collective action rooted in solidarity.

Get Involved

You can join actions, bring new ideas, help fundraising or donate towards a more just valley.

We want everyone to have enough to eat throughout this winter.

Make a donation

Every Rand goes towards helping those in need in the village and valley.

Towards a food secure South Peninsula

Our funding priority is food relief. We are working with soup kitchens, food parcels, vouchers, community gardens and farms to prevent malnutrition in the valley.

Our motto

We know that we are stronger together. Connect with your neighbours in the village and across the valley. Strength lies is diversity and differences. Let’s practice life together – towards a just valley for all. The time to start is now.

Start now

How to start?

Look inside yourself and around yourself, identify something you like to grow and connect with others about and get in touch.

We are here to connect!

Cape Town Together is a rapidly developing community-based response to COVID-19 and it’s growing every day! It gave rise to over 70 Community Action Networks or CANs.

Kommetjie CAN is the local manifestation of this new social movement, which emerged as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic but full of potential to create a better future for everyone. We are asking for your support on this journey.

Kommetjie CAN

For the South Peninsula to be connected and resourced in a way that allows future generations to strive on the land.

As a CAN, we like to go with the time and tides. Currently, we understand the CAN to be…

  • connect individuals and organisations
  • enabling for citizens of the valley to unfold their potential in community
  • an incubating space for ideas to find discussion and collective manifestation
  • an offering for people to join, make sense and use off, and find belonging in community.
